Hogle Zoo Birthday

Instead of a birthday party, we told P1 we could go do something with 2 friends. He picked going to the zoo. He even made little zoo books for his friends so that they could mark all the animals they found. We went on Saturday the 26th. I thought that it would be the perfect time to go. The weather was decent, and I thought it wouldn't be very crowded. I mean, who goes to the zoo in late October?

Well, apparently everyone goes to Hogle Zoo on the last Saturday in October. Because they do trick-or-treating at the zoo that day. We got there about 1:30 pm, and the parking lot was full. And all I see everywhere are kids in costumes. It was too late to turn back, but I was not thrilled to see the zoo so busy. We had to park up by Heritage Park. I was debating whether I should let the kids join in the trick-or-treating or not. Once we got in the zoo, I saw this huge line that wrapped around the zoo for trick-or-treating. I made the decision not to wait in those lines. Instead, we went and saw the animals like we had planned on. We only had about 2 hours to be there. The animal exhibits weren't too crowded since all the other visitors were simply waiting in lines to get candy. I do believe we were the only ones there not in costume though.

The kids had a blast, and made me take pictures of them at every animal statue they could find. P1 said it was more fun than a birthday party.
