Camping

We practiced camping in our backyard before our trip. Dad had a cold and so he slept inside. The original plan was for P3 to share a sleeping bag with me, and that did not pan out. He would just scream if I tried to keep him in the sleeping bag. He ended up bouncing all around the tent until 11 pm. And then every time I woke up in the night, he was sleeping in a new place.

After our "practice", we decided to take a pack and play for P3 to contain him. But we were also really worried about keeping him warm at night. So the morning of our camping trip, we went out and bought a tent heater. I also ended up having a colitis flare that morning. So we almost didn't even make it camping. But I was able to get a prescription quickly, and we still made it up.

We camped at Trial Lake up in the Uintahs. We had campsite #15 and #16. Site #16 was a good site, and we ended up setting our tent over there too. The kids enjoyed being in the mountains, and exploring. P3 especially loved to go on walks.

Enjoying s'mores:

It got cold at night (40-50 degrees F), and we were so glad to have our tent heater. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have lasted the night without it. We kept it on low, and then ended up turning it on high in the early morning. We went through 3 camping propane canisters for the night. The kids slept really well. Mom and Dad kept walking up to check on kids and the heater. So we didn't get as much sleep.

The next day we spent a lot of time at the lake. We tried fishing, but didn't have any success. We went out in the canoe. It was the first time the kids have been in a canoe. At one point, P1's fishing pole slipped out of his fingers and sunk to the bottom of the lake. He was so sad! I watched helplessly as it slipped out of view. Then we saw his bubble floating, so we paddled over to it in hopes of rescuing his pole. I almost got it, but then the kids leaned over to look and we almost tipped! I jerked back, and in doing so we lost the bubble!

The plan was to leave Wednesday morning after breakfast. We decided to just go home after dinner instead of sleeping another night in a tent. We had a good time, but we were also ready to go home. We stopped in Kamas on the way home and got ice cream at the Summit Inn Pizza and Ice Cream. The ice cream was good, but when we saw another family get their pizza, it looked amazing! Definitely need to come back for that pizza!

We got home around 10 pm, gave the kids quick baths, and then crashed in our nice warm, soft beds!
